Reading Road, Sherfield-on-Loddon

Mac Mic has submitted a planning application to provide much-needed new homes (including affordable housing) on land at Reading Road, Sherfield-on-Loddon.

Ahead of submitting a planning application,  we consulted local residents and local businesses on our plans over the last 18 months. This included two in person events in December 2022 and January 2023, which were attended by around 200 people. Thank you to everyone who took part in our consultation.

The plans will bring new homes including affordable housing, and a new community building to Sherfield-on-Loddon. Also included in the plans is a new cycleway connecting Sherfield-on-Loddon to Chineham.

Your feedback

Since December 2022, we have consulted local residents and businesses about our plans. This has included leafleting local households, hosting a dedicated project website, holding two in person exhibitions in the village and canvassing local businesses.

Around 200 residents attended the exhibitions and around 50 people submitted feedback. Thank you to everyone who responded. You told us:

of respondents viewed protecting and enhancing biodiversity on the site as important or very important.
0 %
of respondents supported the provision of new community facilities.
0 %
of respondents opposed the provision of a new care home.
0 %

Residents expressed a desire to see a sympathetic design that reflects the heritage and character of the local area, that helps mitigate existing traffic congestion at peak times and improves pedestrian and cycle routes around the site to the village.

Our plans

In response to the feedback received, we have made changes to our scheme. Key changes include:

The new homes will be a mix of different sized homes, designed to reflect the character and heritage of Sherfield-on-Loddon. There will also be an inclusion of bungalows for those aged 55+ as part of the housing mix.

The plans propose a package of highway improvements including a vehicular entrance point into the site, a pedestrian footpath into the village and investment in the number 14 bus service.

A new cycleway to Chineham

Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council have identified the need for a new cycleway connecting Sherfield-on-Loddon to Basingstoke as part of their Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan to encourage sustainable transport across the Borough.

This route is identified as part of Basingstoke’s primary cycle network and is classified as a priority improvement, having been identified as the top priority route by residents and stakeholders.

Our proposals would deliver a critical part of this key infrastructure improvement, providing a new shared pedestrian & cycle route along the A33, connecting Sherfield on Loddon village at Reading Road to Chineham at the Taylors Farm roundabout, providing access to the Chineham Business Park and onwards routes into Basingstoke town centre.

You can find out more about the proposed route here.
